Reasons To Be Active Everyday

60 Minute A Day Challenge

Fitness 101

Winter is coming and avoiding hibernation syndrome is difficult - even for kids.  Don’t you just want to curl-up under a heavy blanket?  No!  Commit-2B-Fit wants to challenge everyone of all ages to be moderately active for at least sixty minutes every day.
For those cold days get in your sixty minutes with a little creative thinking.  Turn off the TV, lock the fridge, and for sixty minutes think only of being active.  Get your heart pumping and stay indoors while achieving this goal.
To help get you motivated, or if you just can’t think of something to do in smaller indoor spaces, here’s a list of activities that can be done inside.  Some of them require a friends.  So grab your neighbor and help each other stay active.

  1. Dance to your favorite music

  2. Play musical chairs

  3. Play balloon badminton

  4. Play indoor hopscotch

  5. Do some yoga

  6. Set up an obstacle course with pillows and blankets

  7. Build a fort

  8. Run, jump, & slam into some bubble wrap

  9. Crayon or block bowling

  10. Play cup & ball toss

  11. Have a pillow sack race

  12. Play indoor basketball with wadded paper & pots and pans

  13. Do some brain breaks!!

Last month we challenged everyone to move for sixty minutes everyday.  Well, how did you do?  Commit-2B-Fit is challenging you again to be active for 60 minutes everyday.  However, this time, we’re going to tell you why you need to be active.  Keep this in mind when you feel like playing video games instead of getting up and moving for 60 minutes.

  • Reason #1: Exercise benefits you mind because it produces endorphins, chemicals that make you happier.

  • Reason #2:  Exercise keeps you at a healthier weight because it burns calories.  So when you eat 2, 3 . . . 5 too many cookies, then go and exercise.

  • Reason #3:  Exercise helps manage weight and lowers risks of diseases such as diabetes.

  • Reason #4: It helps you age well.  Wait, you’re in your teens or maybe your only six!  Exercising now helps prevent osteoporosis, a weakening in your bones, in the future.

Overall, exercise benefits you today, as a student, and tomorrow, as an adult.  Being healthy takes every day choices, and today’s choices affect upcoming weeks, months and years.  It’s cold, so stay inside!  But get exercise for 60 minutes everyday.
