Founders & History

Joe & Kerry Murphy launched the program in 2010.

Commit-2B-Fit was started in 2010 through the Chilhowee R-IV School District in Chilhowee, Missouri.  Chilhowee Schools received the PEP Grant and began developing solid, fundamental program for the school.  The grant has help take physical education into the classroom.  Our partners page offers more information regarding specific instances.

Commit-2B-Fit started as a whole bunch of paperwor connected to the PEP Grant.  It took time and effort from several hard-working people to create an organiztion, or idea, that would work with Chilhowee Schools.  Now, Commit-2b-Fit has many goals to accomplish.  The main three goals are get one hour of activity each day, eat our fruits and veggies each day, and maintain our cardiovascular fitness levels at a strong and healthy level. There are several other more complex goals incorporated.

The PEP Grant has also financed the physical education program, and the money has bought new and innovative equipment to add fun twists to the regular PE courses.  In addition, the grant made possible a nutrition course for high school and extra organized activities for elementary students.

Currently, Commit-2B-Fit is working on getting more involved in the community and is continuing health education for the students.

The Grant runs for three years.  This three year period allows the Commit-2B-Fit team the time to put it all together; to maneuver the puzzle pieces into their logical spaces… and as the years go by both parents and community members will begin to notice some very new and exciting equipment and resources at CHS.
